While it's a great looking expansion pack, I often dealt with many glitches and lags that made it difficult to for me to play. And while mermaids were an interesting touch, they seemed more of a hassle than part of necessary gameplay. Though when not glitchy, the additions of scuba diving, houseboats, lifeguarding, and the hotel system made for many hours of new play!
Pets expansions have always been extremely popular in the Sims franchise ever since Sims Unleashed. The farm aesthetic is a nice addition and the introduction of horses and horse racing are innovative ideas, but personally pets are only a compelling feature for so long — especially when your cats love to scratch up all the furniture in the house.
The pets can become more chore than man's best friend at times. At least it's realistic in that sense! A personal favorite in the Stuff Pack department, High End Loft offers sleek and modern furniture, technology, and decor that were used very often in my Sims' homes. If one had to choose a single stuff pack, this would be the one I'd suggest.
The introduction of Showtime added a wide variety of professions, traits, and lifetime ambitions for your inner star, as well as some nice villa-inspired homes and decor. However, this pack works best when paired with other expansions, such as Late Night , and thus is generally weak on its own.
In addition, Simport bars a number of players from accessing features if you do not play with others. While there is much more to do in this pack than other expansions, it's down the list for this reason. I personally enjoy the magic and occult in the Sims franchise, and I feel that Sims 4 has strayed from that aspect of the games despite the release of Realm of Magic.
While I do not always make fantasy-style Sims, I really enjoyed the attention to detail in clothing, hair, and furniture, and was able to incorporate them often in both magical and regular gameplay. The addition of new types of Sims into the third generation from fairy to witch were also a strong addition — save for the content zombie attacks, which hampered some of the fun. Offering a variety of new professions, thanks to this pack one can now participate first-hand in their Sims' jobs, rather than drop them off at a rabbit hole.
These jobs satisfy all types of players, from the design lovers in the architecture and stylist professions, to the more quirky and adventurous Simmers with the firefighting, ghost-hunting, and private investigator professions. In my opinion this pack was really strong, though there were other expansion packs that offered more options for the Simmer to enjoy. This pack did what other sub-neighborhood packs couldn't: it offered social groups, a variety of majors that allowed you to advance your career quickly, many parties and social gathering opportunities.
Players are able to choose a variety of tones in these classes, which affects the Sims' academic performances. Some of the tones are: "Socialize" and "Suck Up to the Professor".
The Sims can ask a Sim to attend their classes, but by doing so, the professor may notice. As lecture halls are open, and therefore interactive. This feature differs from The Sims 2: University , where Sims would attend classes off-lot and could not be interacted with while at class. They can ask questions, take notes, and sleep through the lecture, and these actions affect their academic performances.
Although Sims are allowed to skip classes for at maximum two days, more frequent occurrences result in punishment. Spring breaks may occur if the player has Seasons installed, and it will depend on when the Sims' term ends.
They look similar to the Adventure Boards in World Adventures. Sims need to have a high academic performance, achieved through studying, paying attention at classes and lectures, and enhanced by a Sim's existing skills. Examinations will occur on Fridays. Sims can study from textbooks, computers and smartphones, or create a study group with up to three other Sims four total. They can also cheat on the examinations by making a study sheet and using the "Cheat" tone, but they might get caught.
Sims with a high computer hacking skill can find examination answers the day before that examination on a computer. Minimal studying and a poor mood will likely result in a failing grade. Failing it will make a major impact on their final grade. Sims can drop out of university, but this may affect their life in some way. Graduations happen after Sims complete their major, the times varying based on major and when the Sim began to attend university. The time needed to graduate will depend on how many classes the Sim takes.
If Sims graduate from university, they will get an extra trait slot and career benefits, depending on major. The grades will affect the advantages, therefore Sims with higher grades will get more bonuses, [5] while Sims with lower grades will never get any benefits. Graduated Sims who want to meet the Sims from university can call them to have them visit their home town. Some of the university buildings are built inside of shells, similar to Late Night 's apartment building shells, where the interior can be customized while the exterior cannot.
The buildings can be added on any home worlds, but they function as rabbit holes with new interactions, thus this will not serve as a real university. The java hut lot in University Life is different from the Coffeehouse lot from Showtime. While the java hut has an interior with a barista bar which is interactive, the Coffeehouse does not.
The shop will open from 9am to 1am. Dormitories can be built and edited through Edit Town mode. These dormitories will automatically fill in with Sims acting as roommates. Sims can rent a dorm room or pay and rent an individual house in Sims University. Renting a house is more expensive than living in dorms.
Players can "set bed ownership" for the Sims by clicking a bed. Sims can kick out their roommates, or request for roommate reassignments only in University. Sims do not pay bills while in University. However, they do earn money if they have roommates only applies to in rent houses in University. How much money a Sim earns depends on how many roommates they have. Sorority houses are for female Sims while fraternity houses are for male Sims. These houses are more for the social side of the Sims' university life.
